CGF's First Borrower Passes Citizenship Test
Capital Good Fund, one of Sparkseed’s ventures, recently helped its first borrower pass her U.S. citizenship test. Just four months ago, Eva Jimenez received a loan from CGF in order to cover both the $675 application fee and $200 legal representation cost of applying to become a U.S. citizen. Eva explained “before CGF, I never thought I would become a citizen because I can’t afford it. Now I am so happy to be a citizen of this country.” After weeks of studying and preparation, Eva passed the test on Wednesday, July 22, 2009.
CGF strives to help individuals like Eva in order to create an economy that is environmentally sustainable and socially equitable. The news of Eva’s success sheds light on the type of positive impact CGF can have on people’s lives. With CGF’s help, Eva will now be able to focus on her career aspirations. As a talented writer and illustrator, Eva is considering pursuing another loan from CGF to help her print and market her first children’s book, a story about Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and the importance of tolerance and understanding. CGF is helping its borrowers not only achieve their short term goals, but also helping them look towards the future.
